Your response has been submitted to speechactstrategies@gmail.com.

In the sample dialogues, the speakers use various strategies in order to refuse the invitation without hurting their hearer’s feelings or offending them or to refuse and communicate honest feelings.  Let’s review the strategies and the language once again.

Situation 1

Language used: 再来週の土曜日はちょっと予定が入っちゃってるんですよ。

サークルの忘年会も同じ日なんで。

Saraisyuuno doyoubiwa chotto yoteiga haicchatterun desuyo. Saakuruno bounenkaimo onaji hi nande.   ‘I have some plans already that day.  I have another year-end party at my club on the same day.’
