Marlene Johnshoy
Online Education Program Director
CARLA Web Manager

Marlene Johnshoy began her work with CARLA during the first three-year cycle of National Language Resource Center funding (1993-1996). As part of the Technology Project team, she provided the technical support for the Russian and Chinese interactive TV courses and assisted with the development of three regional workshops for Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Hebrew instructors.

From 1996-1999, Marlene served as a co-instructor and provided technical support for a course called "Technology in Second Language Teaching," which was a pilot program for inservice and preservice teachers and is now a regular part of the curriculum for preservice teachers. She was also was responsible for creating a database of software for a variety of languages which is accessible on the web.

In 1999, Marlene began working with the Content-Based Language Teaching with Technology (CoBaLTT) program to facilitate the technology portion of the CoBaLTT program and to act as the web developer for the CoBaLTT website.

As the CoBaLTT program finished, Marlene started the CARLA Technology Project and has given workshops across the country on technology integration to teachers of all languages. As part of the Project, Marlene coordinates the languages and technology workshops co-sponsored by IALLT and ACTFL.

Most recently, Marlene has received yearly grants from STARTALK to offer a completely online course for STARTALK teachers on how to teach online. The course has proven so popular, Marlene and her STARTALK team are offering a CARLA summer institute version as well as a new pilot in a semester-long format vs. the 3-week intensive summer course they do for STARTALK.
