HINDI EXERCISES

This page contains links to several Hindi exercises developed by Gabriela Nik. Ilieva and
the Less Commonly Taught Languages project at the University of Minnesota.
These are NOT language lessons. They are designed to be supplementary practice
and review exercises to be used in accompaniment with a Hindi language
course, at either the beginning (1st year) level, or intermediate (2nd year) level.

In order to view these exercises, you will need to do the following:

  1. Have a Hindi script font installed on your computer. The Kånchi font we used (for Macintosh) is available from here.
  2. Set the Proportional Font on your browser to the Hindi font.
  3. Click on the exercise you want to try.

Beginning Exercises

  1. Matching: In each exercise, the student is asked to match two similar pictures with their proper descriptions.

  2. True or False: students decide whether a given statement is true with respect to the displayed photograph.

Intermediate Exercises

  1. Matching: In each exercise, the student is asked to match two similar pictures with their proper descriptions.

  2. True or False: students decide whether a given statement is true with respect to the displayed photograph.

  3. Fill-in-the-Blank: the student completes a description of a photograph by filling in missing words or phrases (from a specific vocabulary list).

  4. Photograph Descriptions:In each of these exercises, the student is asked to describe a photograph using suggested vocabulary items, and then can see and hear a native speaker's description of the same photo.
